Good News For Project House

Posted On The 24 th August 2010
Today's award of £155,195 from BIG's Reaching Communities programme means the group, Project House @ Ramseys, can keep running its support for children and young people.

Based in the Cross Heath area at the Ramsey Road Community Centre, the project supports more than 100 young people from age seven to 17, helping them develop their aspirations and become more involved in the community, while having fun. Activities include arts and crafts, cookery, football sessions, homework clubs and workshops covering a range of topics such as substance abuse and relationships.

Joshua, aged eight, said: "Playing football every week at Project House is brill. It's always good fun; we do loads of things in the holidays too." Another young person, Danielle, aged 12, said: "I don't know what I'd do without Project House. I've made new friends and I'm a mentor to the younger ones. Every day is different." And a parent added: "When he comes home my son counts the "sleeps" before he can go again to Project House."

Ann Spilsbury, Project Manager, said: "We are overjoyed with the news of this grant. We were down to our last few days of funding. This has given us a huge boost to develop our youth inclusion project which gives young people aspirations and activities that help to make them into better citizens.

"We are a stabilising influence for the young people in a challenging environment - it is a safe place to be. We help them get into college, get a job, pass a driving test, get over addiction, deal with bereavement. And we get the parents involved as volunteers."
